WHAT IS IT?

Nanotechnology is the design and use of functional systems at a molecular scale. These systems are extremely small. A nanometer is 1 billionth of a meter. Although small, nano systems punch well above their weight. They can change the known characteristics of common materials, enabling them to perform a range of functions previously not possible, efficiently.

The most common item associated with nanotechnology is probably the carbon nanotube. These little (2-4 nanometers is very little indeed) hollow tubes exhibit very different characteristics to normal carbon. Some possible uses are using nanotubes to make super strong but thin material, or tiny missiles that can carry medicine that seek out and kill cancer cells in the body. The possibilities are endless.

NanoShield is focused on nanoscale surface treatments that work. These surfaces can:
